Weston-Super-Mare & District League Division 4; Clevedon United B 3, Berrow Reserves 2.
Excuses were all the players could offer manager Andrew Walter after Berrow slumped to a miserable first defeat at the hands of a very average Clevedon side on Saturday.

Battling against a strong head wind in the first half, Berrow made an awful start when Marshfield was pulled up for a debatable high foot, resulting in a free kick on the edge of the box which was side footed around the wall into the bottom corner.

BFC continued in a shambles for 15 minutes but then played a little bit of football and put the home side under a bit of pressure. A well worked free kick between Baunton and Barrett saw the ball flicked on by Berrows best player –Raymond to Barrett to volley home from 12 yards.

Unfortunately all this hard work was undone when Berrow’s defence let the ball bounce again and again and finally fall to a Clevedon striker who shot into a defenders boot to loop over George Panayi in the Berrow goal for a 2-1 home lead at half time.

Berrow flew out of the traps for the second half and used the wind well for 20 mins and got a deserved equalizer after Baunton hit the bar, Vickery scored for the 4th consecutive game from a tight angle.

This was the end of anything good Berrow did as they went to pot and lost every battle all over the pitch. Clevedon scored from a corner after the whole away team took a cat nap instead of defending the set piece.

Soon afterward the referee lost control of the game as meaty challenges came in from both sides resulting in a few yellow cards which could easily have been red.

Dale Curtis came on and put himself about and very nearly got an undeserved equalizer in the last minute but was denied by a point blank save.

Walter commented After the game ‘’only 2 positives can be taken from today – we only got -1 goal difference, which should have been worse. And we can definitely beat them at home.’’

Team- Panayi, J Curtis (Walter) Marshfield, Puddy, Bassi, Guyatt (D Curtis) Raymond, Catlow, Barrett, Baunton, Vickery
