Somerset County League Division 2 West; Congresbury 3, Berrow 4.
Congresbury 3, Berrow 4

Berrow produced another splendid display of attacking football on Saturday at Congresbury, to pick up another valuable 3 points on their quest for promotion.
Manager Louis Dean will however have cause for concern at the defensive display that Berrow produced in the opening exchanges of the first half.

Once again Berrow were forced into making changes for the 8th consecutive game due to Dax Vincents unavailability, however they did welcome back Ryan McErlain to the subs bench and Steve Eley was handed a start in place of Vincent.

Berrow were at sixes and sevens for the opening 20 minutes of the half and only came to life when they handed the hosts an embarrassing opener when they failed to deal with a long ball over the top of the defence.

Being behind seemed to spark Berrow into life and they proceeded to play some of their best football of the season.

Berrow got their equalizer when a long throw from Luke McErlain was flicked on by Jeff Read who found Dave Keirle at the far post who made no mistake with a stooping header.

Second half was even better for the visitors, as they blitzed Congresbury with 2 goals in the opening 10 minute.

Berrow grabbed the lead when great interplay between, McElrain, Eley and Read saw James Reddish clean through, Reddish finished well at the second time of asking.

Berrow’s next goal was nothing short of breathtaking, defending a corner the ball was cleared to Eley on the edge of the box, who played a fantastic ball over the Congresbury back line for Keirle who plucked the ball out of the air with style ran on and lobbed the keeper into the opposite top corner.
Even the opposing supporters were applauding Keirle who is quite simply on fire at the moment.

Congresbury forced their way back into the game when they pulled another goal back with 20 minutes left.

This simply stirred Berrow back into action when another long throw found Read who played Keirle in for his hat-trick goal.

Congresbury to their credit, still plugged away and were handed a life line with 5 minutes remaining, chasing a long ball down the home striker stole a march on Gary Prowse, as the Berrow centre back looked to get round his man he ended up inadvertently taking him down, unfortunately for Prowse the referee deemed this as denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity and dismissed him for the first time in his football career.

The resulting free kick was brilliantly fired home.

Congresbury probed but the 10 men of Berrow held on easily to take a richly deserved 3 points.

Berrows Man of the match; Jeff Read

Warner, Lismore, Prowse, Dawes, Vickery, Eley (Dean), Shepherd (R.McErlain), Read, L.McErlain, Reddish, Keirle. Sub unused; Curtis
