Somerset County League Division 2 KO Cup; Berrow 2, Creech St Michael 1.
Berrow kicked off their defence of the cup they won last May with an impressive performance against a below par Creech St Michael.

Berrow, yet again, due to player availability made 2 changes to the side that beat Congresbury the previous week, with Lloyd Dean being installed at right back and Ryan McErlain was reinstated into the midfield.

Berrow started as they meant to go on this game, playing good football and pressing their opponents into mistakes, and it paid off after 15 minutes when James Reddish chasing a seemingly lost cause only to mug the defender attempting to shepherd the ball out of play inside the box leaving the Creech full back no choice but to haul him down. Dave Keirle successfully converted from the spot.

Berrow were denied what would have been a brilliant second goal when Keirle diverted Luke McErlain’s through ball into the path of Jeff Read, who thundered his header goal bound only to be denied by the bar.

Berrow continued to boss proceedings in the second half and were duly rewarded when Keirle grabbed a simple second goal, poking home Luke McErlains long throw into the bottom corner.

This signaled a double substitution for Berrow as they bought on returning wingers Dax Vincent and Will Conway both reminded manager Dean that he has plenty of options in that department.

Creech grabbed a late consolation in what was the only blemish on an almost perfect performance, robbing the Berrow back line of a deserved clean sheet with Ross Vickery and Simon Dawes particularly impressive for the hosts.

Berrow take on the same side next week at home in the league in a 3pm kick off.

Berrows man of the match was Simon Dawes for an imperious display

Warner, Lismore, Dean, Vickery, Dawes, Eley (Vincent), L.McErlain, R.McErlain (Shepherd), Read, Reddish (Conway), Keirle.
