Somerset County League Division 2 West; Long Ashton 2, Berrow 3
Once again Berrow produced a late show to snatch all three points against a rejuvenated Long Ashton side who are always tough opposition on their own pitch.

Berrow travelled to the outskirts of Bristol with the same squad as the previous week and had the luxury of naming the same starting line up in consecutive weeks for the first time this season.

The hosts got out the blocks quickest and spent the opening exchanges applying pressure to the Berrow resistance, but the visitors held firm and began to take control and Gary Prowse underlined this fact when he rose highest to plant a Ryan McErlain corner firmly past the keeper.

Berrow kicked on with further efforts from Steve Eley and Dave Keirle rattled the bar and Luke McErlain stung the keepers hands with a rasping effort.
It was from the resulting corner that Berrow had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0, when Eley was blatantly pushed in the back as he looked to head goal wards. Keirle failed to take his chance with a tame spot kick that was easily saved by the Long Ashton goalkeeper.

Things immediately went from bad to worse for the visitors as Long Ashton went straight up the other end and equalized, despite the fact that Jeff Read appeared to have been bundled into the back of the net.

Second half saw Berrow under more pressure from the hosts but they once again held firm with the game beginning to become frenetic both teams having half chances.

It was Berrow that regained the lead with 20 minutes left, Ryan McErlain getting up highest to head home from a Luke McErlain long throw.

Berrow looked to have sealed the victory when Keirle beat the keeper and laid Eley on for a simple tap in, only for a dubious line call to chalk the goal off.

With just five minutes remaining, again disaster struck for the visitors when Read’s high boot was adjudged to be a foul in the box, the Long Ashton penalty taker made no mistake, dispatching the ball into the top corner.

Just when it looked as if Berrow had dropped a vital 2 points, they snatched the winner, Ryan McErlain again the provider with a swirling free kick that was met by Eley with the faintest of touches to hand the visitors the spoils.

Next up for Berrow is a break from league action as the take on Division 1 Portishead Town in the Somerset County Senior Cup at Red Road 2pm Kick Off.
