Weston-Super-Mare & District League Division 4; Nailsea United Colts 4, Berrow Reserves 1.
Berrow went into this game full of confidence after last week’s impressive 5-1 victory over Banwell, against a team they easily beat just 4 weeks ago.
Manager Andy Walter was forced into a couple of changes from the previous game with influential midfield enforcer Raymond in contract talks with Manchester City and young Ellis Harper being rewarded for his form with a first team recall.

In came the returning internationals Barrett and Clarke to take their place on the wings while ‘The Rock’ Marshfield was pushed into midfield.

Within 5 minutes BFC realized that this was not the same 11 they beat a few weeks ago as Nailsea dominated, dictated and dispatched Berrow at will to claim all 3 points.

Berrow could have been one down early on but for a one-on-one save from Man of the Match Adam Cox, and the rebound expertly saved with a left hand by Walter, luckily in the referee’s blind spot.

The first goal did follow from a unstoppable header from a long throw scored by some bloke called Alan who really definitely was a Nailsea Colts Player, Honest.

Berrow rallied but the size of the pitch and a very solemn James Vickery meant it was not going to be a good day. The only piece of football BFC did play resulted in the goal of the game, Guyatt whipped in a corner that fell to Marshfield, he fed Catlow who picked out a unmarked but very offside Wayne Barrett to side foot volley into the top left corner. For once the flag didn’t go up so the half time score was 1-1

1-1 was as good as it got for Berrow as they were destroyed in the second half, were it not for Cox in goal it could have been a very embarrassing day indeed.

The second goal killed the game and spirit of Berrow, a shocking decision from the ref gave Nailsea an indirect free kick on the edge of the box, all because Ash Catlow as stronger that his opponent. The ball was touched by ‘Alan’ and one of the few ‘Colt’ players from the last encounter fired the ball like lightning into the top corner. Hat off to the kid, but referee – please!

After Cox had made save after save the opposition decided to injure him by pushing Bassi into him. This meant Barrett to go in goal and Walter to remove himself leaving Dyer on as left back and CJ Organ to enter the fray and get a little possession going in the middle.

The changes steadied the ship for a while and Tommy Clarke, playing his best game to date, saw more of the ball. The Nailsea keeper made one great save from Vickery but Nailsea had the last Laugh by lobbing Barrett for 3-1 and a breakaway 4th in the last minute.

BFC need to bounce back on Saturday at Home to South Park Rangers if they are to continue to push for back to back promotions.

Walter commented after the game that he may appeal the Nailsea Team Selection, after consultation with his legal team

Team – Cox (Organ), Guyatt (Curtis), Puddy, Walter (Dyer), Bassi, Clarke, Marshfield, Catlow, Barrett, Vickery Baunton

M-O-M - Cox
