Weston-Super-Mare & District League Division 4; Berrow Reserves 5, South Park Rangers 4.
Berrow managed to squeeze past lowly American side South Park on Saturday, thanks to clever tactical changes by Andy Walter, and assisted by 4 second half goals by Fernando Baunton.

With the Storm at its peak the homes side went out and forked the puddle pitch into a game playing state, but then decided not to start playing until a third of the game had gone. By this time BFC were 2 down through wind assisted goals and sloppy defending.
In recent weeks Walter had instilled a ‘never say die’ attitude into his players and this mentality, mixed with the returning midfield machine Raymond and first team playmaker Jack Lionel Shepherd saw Berrow raise their game and start to dominate.
Barrett put Baunton through on 30 minutes but he failed to hit the top corner, meanwhile Clarke and Shepherd played nice football down the right flank which resulted in the first goal. Shepherd sent a wicked cross into the box which was only half cleared. The ball fell to Vickery who smashed it into the net from 10 yards. For the rest of the half and the early exchanges of the second the home side were well on top as they cut the South Park defense to shreds with both Vickery and Catlow forcing superb saves from the visitors keeper. From one of these saves Shepherd swung in an inch perfect corner that was met by the head of Baunton to power into the top corner and bring a loud cheer from a sold out Red Road Arena crowd. At this point it was all about how many the home side would go on to win by as they were out classing their opponents left, right and centre.

However a breakaway lead to a penalty conceded by Rochford which was duly dispatched and BFC were behind again. This prompted changes by Walter as he replaced Vickery with a rejuvenated Dale Curtis and an injury to Catlow saw CJ Organ partner Raymond in midfield. The changes worked immediately; unfortunately they worked for South Park as another breakaway saw the visitors go 4-2 up with just 15 minutes remaining.
Baunton had a great chance to reduce the lead just minutes later when Barrett flicked on a Shepherd cross, the touch was world class, but the finish was – not (to be kind) as the ball trickled past the post. At this point Guyatt came on to give the home side more attacking threat.
Chances were coming to Berrow every few minutes with Curtis and Barrett both coming close before Baunton hit the post with a wind assisted cross.
With the clock ticking away CJ Organ put Curtis through one on one, the keeper again produced a great save but as Curtis was going for the rebound he was bungled over for another penalty, Baunton strode up to convert like he has for the last 15 years to give BFC a fighting change of a draw.
With 5 minutes to go – enter the ‘Mark Raymond – Simon Baunton Show’.
Organ sent in a lovely corner that fell to Raymond, he shielded the ball and then teed it up for Baunton to smash into the roof of the net to make sure that Berrow got at least a point from the game.
With just a minute left on W Dancer’s timepiece it was those two again. A low cross into the box was flicked on bravely but Raymond (Gerrard) to fall to Baunton (Torres) at the back post, who thundered it back across goal with his left stick to win the game and all 3 points. Raymond was left on the floor like a wounded war hero after taking a kick to the head when he flicked the ball on. He does wear his heart on his sleeve.
Berrow saw out the remaining second with help from Curtis and Barrett holding the ball in the corners.

The 3 points keep Berrow nicely placed for promotion from Div 4

Team- Cox, Marshfield Puddy Rochford (guyatt) Shepherd, Barrett Raymond Catlow (Organ) Clarke, Baunton Vickery (Curtis)
