Weston-Super-Mare & District League Division 4; King Alfred Sport Centre F.C. 2, Berrow Reserves 1.
Berrow managed to produce a very below par performance in the Division 4 derby game at King Alfred’s on Saturday.

The home team had more heart, desire and commitment as Berrow’s awful away form continued.

A very scrappy first half saw just 2 chances created. First, Curtis broke through Alf’s centre backs, Bowyer and Bridgwater, but lifted his lob over the keeper but wide of the post. Within minutes King Alf’s were awarded a soft penalty when Tommy Clarke was adjudged to have made enough contact for the striker to go over just inside the box. Ben Kingston confidently tucked the spot kick away despite Cox diving the right way.

Nothing more happened in the first half as neither side could pass or dribble due to the amount of late challenges.

In the second half Berrow played panicked, rushed football and Alf’s played the sensible counter attacking football.

An undeserved equaliser came half way through the half as 30 year old Alex Taylor’s free kick led to an unseen foul on the KA keeper, the ball falling to Russ Catlow for a tap in.

With relief in the mind of the Berrow players, no one shut down Matt Mitchell went wide left, his cross sailed over everyone and dropped into the far corner of the goal.

I would like to say that Berrow then rallied and put King Alf’s under pressure, but that would be a lie.

King Alfred’s could and should have won by more.

Andy Walter refused to take questions after the game.

Skipper Puddy commented ‘‘we just can’t win on small pitches. Especially if we don’t try’’

Team- Cox, Puddy, Marshfield, Walter, Guyatt, Clarke, Dyer (Affifi), Catlow, Taylor, Baunton, Curtis (J Curtis)
