Somerset County League Division 2 West; Berrow 4, Burnham United Reserves 1.
Berrow 4, Burnham United Res 1.

Berrow eased to victory over local rivals Burnham Saturday, however credit must go to the leagues basement club for their fight and endeavour after being on the wrong on end of some heavy score lines of late.

Berrow handed a debut to former Burnham player Scott Lismore, who transferred that week from Bridgwater Town, his performance showed he could well be a vital addition to the squad.

Berrow started sluggishly and Burnham took full advantage by putting Berrow on the wrong foot and pressurizing the hosts into errors, with Ben Douce-Burridge in particular playing like a man possessed in the Burnham midfield competing for just about every ball on the park.

As Berrow began to settle, their class shone through and it was through a former Berrow player that they were handed the breakthrough, Simon Dawes was adjudged to have unfairly halted the progress of Dave Keirle inside the box. Luke McErlain dispatched the spot kick.

Burnham continued to apply pressure for no real end product, although Owen Jandrell did make Berrow keeper Chris Warner work when sloppiness saw the ball given away in a dangerous area.

Berrow got a second when a clever one-two between the Lismore’s saw Shaun ghost past the evergreen Robin Puddy to square to Keirle who lost Dawes momentarily to score from close range.

Berrow then had a third just before half time, this time Steve Eley with an unstoppable free kick from the edge of the box that ended up in the top corner.

Burnham could have been forgiven for coming out in the second half feeling sorry for themselves, however they didn’t and continued to work hard and close Berrow at every opportunity.

Despite this Berrow added a fourth with 25 minutes remaining, another great piece of football this time Scott Lismore providing Keirle with the opportunity to finish.

Berrow took the opportunity to ring the changes, as did Burnham both making substitutions in quick succession that saw Shaun Lismore, Luke McErlain and Keirle being replaced by Ellis Harper, Alex Taylor and Dax Vincent for Berrow and Alec Wilkins, Ash Harrison and Puddy being replaced with Simon Smith, Dave Worthington and Mark Bidgood.

Burnham did get a consolation with the last kick of the game through Smith, who finished well from the edge of the box.

Berrow’s man of the match was Ryan McErlain who was pushed close by centre backs Lloyd Dean and Gary Prowse.

Burnham’s man of the match was Ben Douce-Burridge who worked tirelessly throughout.
