Somerset County League Division 2 West; Cheddar Reserves 1, Berrow 5.
It turned out to be another very good day for Berrow on Saturday as they emerged victorious from another local derby. Their latest victory also saw them stretch their lead at the top of the league to 5 points with closest rivals Yatton and Banwell both losing.

Berrow were required to make slight changes to their starting line up with Lloyd Dean pulling out the night before and Steve Eley joining James Reddish on the long term injury list. This meant that recent signing Richard Lambert was handed his debut and Jeff Read came in for Eley, on the bench was reserve top scorer James Vickery as reward for his fine form this season.

They got off to a fine start when a well worked corner routine saw Wayne Barrett swing the ball over to Gary Prowse who took one touch and buried the ball past the keeper with a rasping effort.

Berrow were then unfortunate to lose left back Wayne Barrett with a twisted ankle, who was replaced by Ross Vickery as Berrow reshuffled.

Cheddar responded well, and only some desperate defending from Lambert, Prowse, Vickery and the superb Shaun Lismore allowed Berrow to retain the lead.

Against the run of play Berrow went 2 up, a quick throw from Luke McErlain to Dave Keirle saw him to the edge of the box with 2 defenders closing him down, Keirle brilliantly flicked the ball over the head of one and unleashed an unstoppable volley into the top corner.

It was soon 3, although very much against the run of play, Scott Lismore heading in McErlains cross from another well worked corner routine for his first goal as a Berrow player.

Cheddar did get some reward for their endeavor on the stroke of half time when Berrow failed to clear a Cheddar free-kick routine.

Second half saw a much improved display from Berrow, and they added a deserved 4th Scott Lismore again pouncing on a loose ball by the Cheddar centre back, he outpaced his man and finished coolly.

Berrow’s 5th came once again from a well worked set piece with Luke McErlains throw being flicked on by Read for Keirle who eventually stabbed home from inside the 6 yard box.

Berrow’s man of the match was Shaun Lismore who was outstanding on the day, just beating his cousin Scott Lismore who also showed his class.

Next up for Berrow is a difficult home clash against Churchill Club 70 who bought about Banwell’s first defeat the previous Saturday.

Warner, Barrett (R.Vickery), Lambert, Prowse, Sh.Lismore, Sc.Lismore (J.Vickery), R.McErlain, L.McErlain, Read, Vincent, Keirle.
