Somerset County League Division 2 KO Cup; Berrow 2, Frome Collegians 1.
Berrow marched into the semi finals of the division 2 cup Saturday against previously unbeaten opponents Frome Collegians, who currently sit top of the East side of the second division.

With a break in league action, Louis Dean took the opportunity to rest Gary Prowse, Shaun Lismore and Dax Vincent and handed starts to Richard Lambert and Jack Shepherd.

The changes caused very little disruption as Berrow flew out of the blocks at their rivals, and the lead wasn’t long in coming. Jack Shepherd lofted a hopeful ball into the box, Jeff Read cleverly dummied to leave Scott Lismore clean through to finish with ease.

Berrow should have been 2 up shortly after, when a goal mouth scramble saw the ball cleared off the line no fewer than 3 times, after a melee of miss-hits and
air shots.

The visitors began to find a way back into the game and Berrow had Chris Warner to thank as he pulled off 2 top class saves that included a palming a powerful close range effort out of the top corner.

With the visitors starting to get joy out of the ball over the top, Louis Dean chose to revert to a 3-5-2 system with Lloyd Dean operating as a sweeper, this effectively ended any threat Frome posed.

Going into the second half the importance of the next goal was underlined and it was Berrow who struck with the half less than 10 minutes old, a precision kick from Warner was met by Read who laid off for Luke McErlain, who in turn hit a first time ball through to Dave Keirle, his brilliant first touch took him into the box where he expertly beat the keeper.

Berrow were then handed a blow when Scott Lismore had to leave the field with concussion, he was replaced by Alex Taylor.

Berrow went close on several occasions but were unable to find a killer third goal as the visiting defence stood firm for the remainder of the game.

The hosts, were cruelly robbed of a well deserved clean sheet however when the referee awarded a harsh penalty in the dying moments.

Man of the Match was Lloyd Dean for a superb display of defending and organization.

After the Match Louis Dean was quoted as saying; “Although the cup is not our priority, the performance today against a side riding high in their division was extremely pleasing, with the strength in depth of our squad being tested. The lads that came in for starts today, Jack Shepherd and Richard Lambert were both excellent and have given me a real selection headache for next weeks promotion showdown with third placed Congresbury”

Warner, Barrett (Shaun Lismore), Dean, Lambert, Vickery, Scott Lismore (Taylor), Luke McErlain, Ryan McErlain, Shepherd, Read (Vincent), Keirle.
