Weston-Super-Mare & District League Division 4; Berrow Reserves 5, Clevedon United B 1
|
Berrow maintained their 100% home record on Saturday by avenging defeat against 4th placed Clevedon. The reserves put out possibly their strongest team to date, aided but Steve Eley, Rich Lambert and Phil Bute, who all started a game together for the first time.
The strong home side took the game straight to Clevedon from kick off by playing some phenomenal one touch football. This pass and move style constantly released wingers Harper and Reddish, and from a Harper run came the first goal. He crossed low to Baunton in the box, who span and was tripped before he could get a shot away. Baunton dusted himself down to confidently stroke the penalty home.
Berrow had a chance to double the lead when a well worked corner by Eley left Reddish with time and space in the box but he blasted over. The second goal came from another set piece as Baunton’s long throw was smashed in by Man-of-the-match Ben Sinclair.
Two more goals quickly followed as a Marshfield cross evaded everyone to sail into the top corner and when Harper was up-ended on the edge of the box, Eley curled the free kick round the wall for a 4-0 half-time lead. The second half went in fits and starts as the away side worked a lot harder than Berrow which made it more of an even affair. Mid way through the half a 30 yard Eley ball into the channel was finished by Baunton to seal the game and allow changes from manager Walter. Taylor, Guyatt and Dyer came on to replace Marshfield, Reddish and Eley (all recovering from knocks). Clevedon pulled one back with 10 minutes to go as a long throw was flicked past Panayi for a far post tap in. The result puts Berrow 2nd in the table but their next 2 games are against 1st and 3rd. Team- Panayi, Marshfield (Guyatt), Bute, Lambert, Bassi, Reddish (Taylor), Eley,(Dyer), Catlow, Harper, Baunton, Sinclair
