Somerset County League Division 2 KO Cup; Berrow 3, Imperial 0.
Cup holders Berrow cruised into the final of the Division 2 cup Saturday with a comprehensive victory over Bristol side Imperial.

Manager Louis Dean, with a full squad to choose from, decided to stick with the starting line up from the previous week’s victory over Long Ashton, naming the returning Jack Shepherd, Shaun Lismore and Scott Lismore on a very strong bench.

Berrow got off to a strong start and were unlucky not to convert a number of half chances, with Dave Keirle, Jeff Read and Luke McErlain all going close to breaking the deadlock.

Berrow made the break through with an excellent team move that started with centre backs Lloyd Dean and Gary Prowse, ending with Keirle heading in Ross Vickery’s looped cross.

Berrow continued to dominate until half time but were unable to extend their lead, with the visitors offering very little in the way of a goal threat.

The hosts got the second half off to a dream start, when, 5 minutes in Dave Keirle cleverly converted Luke McErlains long throw, flicking the ball over the advancing keeper with his head.

Manager Dean took the opportunity at this point to introduce Scott Lismore, who wasted no time at all getting on the score sheet, firing home from just inside the 18 yard box after a goal mouth melee.

This signaled the end of Read and McErlain’s involvement as Shepherd and Shaun Lismore entered the fray.

Lismore took his place upfront and gave the Imperial back line plenty to think about with his quick feet and darting runs where as Shepherd did well winning the ball and keeping things simple.

Frustrated by the manor in which Berrow were picking them apart at will, the visitors began to lose their discipline with Scott Lismore being on the end of some crunching tackles and a stray boot and elbow. The referee did well to keep all eleven men on the pitch.

The final whistle was greeted with Jubilation as Berrow marched into their second final appearance in as many seasons keeping their double aspirations alive and well.

Skipper Ryan McErlain spoke after the game “Its very satisfying to get into another cup final, but the manor of todays performance was very pleasing. We played some great football, were well disciplined in every department” “The victory sets us up well for next weeks clash with 4th placed promotion rivals Westland United, but we must remain focused, we’ve won nothing yet and there is still a long way to go”

Man Of the Match; Dave Keirle, 33 goals and counting.

Warner, Vickery, Prowse, Dean, Barrett, Taylor (Scott Lismore), L.McErlain (Shepherd), R.McErlain, Vincent, Keirle, Read (Shaun Lismore).
