Somerset County League Division 2 West; Berrow 1, Wrington & Redhill 0
Berrow edged closer to promotion on Saturday with a workmanlike performance against a rejuvenated Wrington side that have picked up some impressive victories of late. It was far from vintage stuff from the league leaders as they failed to really get going against there Bristol based opposition.

Berrow were without Lloyd Dean and Jeff Read, so their were recalls to the starting line up for Shaun Lismore and Alex Taylor as Berrow reshuffled the pack. James Reddish was also restored to the first team squad for the first time since late December after recovering from a torn ankle ligament.

Berrow made a great start, taking the lead in the opening few minutes after Scott Lismore’s strike was charged down, Dax Vincent was the man in the right place at the right time to follow up with a well taken finish.

After this Berrow failed to kick on and add to their advantage and the game became scrappy, with Wrington having the majority of the play but unable to hurt the on form Berrow back line.

When Berrow did play football however they looked dangerous, and by rights should have doubled their lead on half time when Wrington were opened up only for Scott Lismore to be denied by a point blank goal line clearance.

The second half failed to provide anything of any real note as Berrow seemed to lack urgency and Wrington were unable to cause any major problems to the Berrow defence and the game petered out without any change to the score.

Berrow now need to pick up a further 9 points in their final 7 fixtures starting with Tuesday nights crunch 1st v 2nd clash away to Weston St John who will be out to avenge the 5-1 drubbing handed to them at Red Road.

Manager Dean commented “Once again we have taken an early lead and scraped out a result” “The next few games are massive and will decide our fate this season, its important we continue to show the resilience we’ve shown the last 2 weeks, however our overall performances need to improve if we are to secure promotion and win the league”

Berrows man of the match was pocket dynamo Shaun Lismore – closely shading the energetic performance of Luke McErlain, who worked hard and made some crucial challenges.

Warner, Shaun Lismore, Prowse, Vickery, Barrett, Vincent (Shepherd), R.McErlain, L.McErlain, Taylor (Reddish), Scott Lismore (Eley), Keirle.
