Somerset County League Division 2 West; Backwell United Reserves 2, Berrow 4.
Berrow went into this game with Backwell last Tuesday night knowing that victory would leave them needing only a point for certain promotion, and they emerged with all three with a solid performance, but unspectacular performance.

Berrow made two changes from the defeat to Combe, with Ross Vickery making way for Gary Prowse to return to the heart of the Berrow defence and Dax Vincent replaced James Reddish with Berrow reverting back to 4-3-3 again.

Berrow had been knocking at the door for some time when Dave Keirle’s speculative left foot strike gave the visitors the lead midway through the half.

Keirle then made it 2 nodding in Jeff Reads flick from Luke McErlains long throw.

Berrow continued to dictate but were frustrated by the home side who defended manfully, they were handed a route back into the game when a their striker latched onto a long ball over the top and coolly finished.

Berrow restored their 2 goal advantage when great interplay between Keirle and Scott Lismore saw the latter gain a yard of space in the box, Lismore capped a fine first half performance with the third goal on the stroke of half time.

Berrow were dealt a harsh blow, as Gary Prowse was replaced at half time by Ross Vickery. Prowse’s season looks to be over with a recurrence of his hip injury.

Backwell reinvigorated by the half time break, came back at Berrow in the second half and were rewarded when their talented midfielder scored with a great strike from the edge of the box to give them a route back into the game.

Once again, a lackluster second half showing from a weary looking side threatened to undo all the good work of the previous 45 minutes as the visitors quite simply switched off.

Fortunately, the defensive unit dealt well with the hosts advances and Keirle completed his hat-trick in the dying moments when he robbed the defender of the ball and slid it past the keeper.

Berrow’s man of the match was hat-trick hero Keirle.

Warner, Shaun Lismore, Prowse (Vickery), Dean, Barrett, Read, L.McErlain, R.McErlain, Vincent (Shepherd), Keirle, Scott Lismore (Eley)
